Sorry for sounding like a dummy, but these questions needs answering;

1- What is beat poetry and how is it different to any other poetry?

2- I think that will do for now but be prepared for further questioning...

    All is spontaneous and surrounding a feeling as the heart beating reaching a big bang like an eye beat protracted to infinite feelings!

    I always think of it as poetry of the lost souls and the dispossessed but I guess it means a lot of different things to different people.

    This is kind of on-topic spammage but a long while ago I wrote this after someone published a poem I wrote in some obscure arthouse magazine:

    homepage.ntlworld.com/david.c...eat.html

    It probably isn't really worth reading but it's there if anyone can be bothered.

      Perhaps you are right about your conceptions because the beat poetry cannot be relativistic and betray no one is just a pure feeling or something like a cultural bombe as the fomous John Lennon "Strawberry fields" ... nothing is real...strawbwrry fields for ever. There is nothing of mistical in this conception because is the exact true.We are betrayed over science, history etc. we just live in the blind that institution give.Just who has nothing to loose can do such poetry.

          And the beats were of course the beat niks who began tune in, turn on, drop out that spawned the counter-cultural hippie 60s-70s movements, etc.

          Ginsberg: I saw the best minds of my generation... (Howl)
          Kerouac's On the Road (not poetry, but beat)
          Susan Waldman
          Ferlinghetti
          Bob Kaufman

          the list goes on

          the beats were a time and place and historical moment context

          and they resisted conventions, born of the avant garde

          snap your fingers if you approve of this message

    Ned Flanders' mum likes beat poetry whereas she come out in a rash if you recite existenjtial poetry at her - it's the difference - it's the only difference.
